May & June News Update

Dear Parents/Carers,
 

We are approaching a very busy time in school with some important events and dates for your diary.

Photos

On Monday 20th May Tempest photography will be in school taking individual photos of all children. It is important that you call our office if you wish a family group photo for siblings in classes in the school.

P1 and P7  Induction days

On Tuesday 14th May and Wednesday 15th  May we are welcoming our new intake of Primary One pupils to school. This will mean a few changes to our current P1 timetable in the afternoons. PE will continue as planned.

Our P7 pupils will be visiting their respective High schools over the next two weeks with all P7 who will be attending Bannerman High  visiting there on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, 21st and 22nd May. The details of this visit has been issued in a separate letter.

Health Weeks

Between Monday 20th and Friday 31st May all classes in the school will have a special focus on Health and wellbeing. During this period teachers will deliver the lessons from our progressive programme in Sexual Health and Relationships. A workshop to update P1 parents on the content of this through-school programme has been organised for Wednesday 15th May at 6.30pm in our school hall. Parents from other stages are welcome to attend if you feel you need a refresher on the content of the lessons.

Sports

Sports afternoons are being planned for the week beginning 27th May weather permitting. All sports will take place on the school pitch.

All pupils in P1 and P2 will take part in sports on Tuesday 28th May from 1.30-2.30pm.

All pupils in P3 and P4 will take part in sports on Wednesday 29th May from 1.30-2.30pm.

All pupils in P5,P6 and P7 will take part in sports on Thursday 30th May from 1.30-2.30pm.

Parents, carers and family are welcome to attend as spectators on these days but please remember that should we have wet weather we may need to cancel. If you are planning to come along to spectate we would appreciate it if you could arrive after 1.20pm to allow time for children to get organised after their lunch.

Annual Reports and Classification for 2019-20

Our classes for next year have been organised as follows:

P1a, P1b, P2/1, P2a, P3/2, P3a, P3b, P4a, P4b,P5a, P5b, P6/5, P6a, P7/6, P7a, P7b.  Our school roll for August will be 470 pupils across 16 classes.

We are currently working on the transition arrangements for all children to their new class and you will receive confirmation of your child’s new class and teacher during the week beginning 10th June. Your child’s annual report will also be issued to you at this time.

Primary 7 leavers Service

All children in school will attend Mure Memorial Church on Thursday 27th June at 1.30pm for our P7 Leavers’ service. You will appreciate that space is very limited and arrangements have been made to enable at least two members from each P7 pupils’ family to attend.  

Holiday Reminders

School is closed to children on Thursday 23rd May as the school is used as a polling place for the European Elections.

On Friday 24th and Monday 27th the school is closed to staff and pupils for the May Weekend.

School closed for the summer break on Friday 28th June at 1.30pm. School re-opens for pupils on Wednesday 14th August. P1 pupils will be in school for full days from their first day in 2019.

Finally, many thanks to everyone who took part in last week’s inspection. I am extremely proud of the achievements of the staff and children in the school and very grateful for the support you and your family give the staff team here in Garrowhill to help make sure our children can be all they can be.

The full inspection report should be available at the start of the new session in August.
